Do you have a leather jacket in your closet? If not, maybe you should. A leather jacket is a great way to express your personal style. Leather jackets never go out of style and are warm and durable plus they always make you look good. Buying a leather jacket will be a smart and a one-time investment, so make sure you shop around and find one that fits.

Here are four basic things you should consider before purchasing a leather jacket.

1.      To get a good leather jacket you will need to spend between $250 and $500. If you shop around you could find one that will cost less. The price might seem un-reasonable but you need to consider it will never go out of style and will always look great.

2.      To look great you need to purchase one of the classic styles, which include bomber, blazer or zip-up. They also come in different lengths waist, medium and trench coat. Just choose the one that you think would look great on you.

3.      You will need to consider what color of leather jacket you want. The most popular color is black.

4.      You will need to consider how the leather jacket is made, if it is a good quality jacket. For instance, the seams should be strong and perfect, the bottom hem should be straight, the collar and pockets should lie flat and check the lining for strong seams, especially in the pockets where you can get a lot of wear and tear.

Here are a few basic tips on how to keep the leather jacket looking great.

-                     Store your leather jacket either flat or on a wide, sturdy padded hanger to prevent stretch marks. You should never use a plastic cover.

-                     If you spill something on your leather jacket take care of it immediately

-                     Try not to let your leather jacket get wet, if possible wear a raincoat over your leather jacket in inclement weather. If it does get wet let it dry naturally away from extreme heat.

-                     If your leather jacket is losing its luster you can rub it down with mink oil or any other commercially available products.
